It is with great pride we announce that THS Choir member Cooper Quiroz, a senior, has been selected to the Texas Music Educators Association All-State Choir. Cooper will be presented in concert with other award winners in February. He will attend workshops and intense rehearsals with a nationally known artist for three days and then perform at the culmination concert on Saturday, February 11, 2012 in San Antonio.
Some 15,000 high school choir students begin the TMEA All-State Choir Audition process in September. Cooper is one of the top 500 selected in the final round or competition.
This is the highest honor for any musician in the state of Texas. We are so very proud of Cooper! (Cooper’s mom is the Fine Arts Secretary)

Preparation for the 2012 THS musical, Les Miserables, is well under way. The will be performances will be February 16, 17, 18, and 19th. Over 75 students are working daily on this production from design, sound, lighting, singing, acting, costuming, hair and make-up, and publicity. This is a very hard undertaking for high school students. The vocal demands alone are great but the THS students are meeting the challenge with great energy and enthusiasm. Please plan to attend.
Did you know...?

The following is to correct and stop any confusion: In Temple ISD students may take TWO fine arts classes during their middle school years, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. YES – your child may take choir and band, or orchestra and band, or orchestra and choir, or choir and art, or theatre and band, or theatre and art – etc. in the 6th, 7th and 8th grades. The best time to begin a performance based fine arts class is in the 6th grade especially band. This has always been true and continues to be true.
